Making multimedia accessible to students and faculty with disabilities
When students with disabilities (i.e. impaired hearing or vision) are in one of your classes, multimedia use in a class (whether online or on-ground) can create new obstacles to overcome. Classroom Digital Media Distribution has worked closely with the OSU Web Accessibility Center (WAC) and the Office of Disability Services (ODS) on finding effective solutions that can be most easily implemented.
If you have a media clip that you would like to share with your class but need to accommodate a student with a hearing impairment, Classroom Digital Media Distribution can assist you in captioning the clip. Software is also available in The Digital Union to help you provide captioning.
Here is an example of video, captioned for the web.
OSU Web Accessibility Center (WAC)
A free service to OSU faculty and staff, the OSU Web Accessibility Center (WAC) analyzes web pages for their accessibility to people with disabilities. The WAC's goal is to ensure that all distance education and online courses at OSU are fully accessible to persons with disabilities.
You can ask to have your web site evaluated for accessibility by e-mailing the URL of the site to webac@osu.edu. Once a site receives WAC approval, a WAC approved icon may be displayed on the site.

Office of Disability Services
The Office for Disability Services offers a wide variety of legally mandated services to students with documented disabilities. After reviewing your documentation, a counselor will determine appropriate academic services and accommodations, depending on your functional limitations in the academic setting. Your counselor at ODS will train you in accessing the accommodations for which you are eligible. You will then be responsible for requesting most accommodations in a timely manner and for following ODS policies and procedures for accessing accommodations as outlined in this section.
