Streaming Tools

Listed below, are some of the more popular tools used for editing or encoding media for streaming over the internet. These products or product lines assist in the creation of streaming media files, which are supported by Classroom Digital Media Creation’s services.

 

Real Producer by RealNetworks

Real Producer allows the user to capture or stream live, from a video source (with appropriate hardware), or to convert a file into Real format from another media format. This product also comes packaged with Real Editor, which allows the user to make basic edits to your clip (change clip information, shorten or append files). Real Producer Plus allows for greater flexibility.

 

Presenter by Accordent

Presenter is an authoring software that enables you to create compelling Web-based presentations. Now you can add and synchronize audio and video to PowerPoint slides, images, documents, and Flash video then deliver them to an audience over the Internet.

 

Windows Media Encoder by Microsoft

Windows Media Encoder allows the user to capture or stream live, from a video source (with appropriate hardware), or to convert a file into Windows Media from another media format.

 

Quicktime Pro by Apple

Quicktime Pro is the upgrade to Quicktime’s free media player. This product allows the user to import and export files, create slideshows, edit media, and prepare media for streaming. This is a useful, user-friendly tool.

 

Cleaner by Discreet

Cleaner and Cleaner XL allow you to transform, optimize, and encode high-quality media for delivery in multiple formats with various control options.

 

ProCoder & ProCoder Express by Canopus

The ProCoder line provides fast, high-quality video format conversion tools with numerous input and output options. Procoder Express is a streamlined version of the full ProCoder software tailored for the non-professional user.

 

Episode by Telestream

Episode offers exceptional speed, quality, and ease of use for transcoding on the Mac; Muliformat media encoding for content repurposing and distribution to Web, DVD, mobile phones and portable devices. Features include extensive format support up to HD, presets, filters and batch processing.

 

Squeeze by Sorenson Media

Sorenson Squeeze is a conversion application that supports a variety of output formats, sizes, and bit rates including high-definition and Macromedia Flash files.

 

Camtasia Studio by TechSmith

Camtasia is a solution for recording, editing, and publishing your screen videos with audio and optional webcam video. You can easily record lectures or create software tutorials and demonstrations. Camtasia records all activity from a Windows PC screen, edits clips, and then outputs files to RealMedia, Windows Media, Flash, Quicktime, and other formats. Captions, text boxes, and graphics can be added after the video is produced.

 

ScreenFlow by Vara Software

ScreenFlow is a solution for recording, editing, and publishing your screen videos with audio and optional webcam video. You can easily record lectures or create software tutorials and demonstrations. ScreenFlow records all activity, including Parallels and VMware from an Apple computer, edits clips, and then outputs files to QuickTime format. ScreenFlow is for OS X Leopard only.

 

MAGpie by National Center for Accessible Media

An authoring tool for making web and CDROM-based rich media materials accessible to persons with disabilities by creating closed captions, subtitles, and audio descriptions to QuickTime, Real, or Windows Media Player files. Developed from funding by the U.S. Department of Education and the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research.

 

Hi-Caption by HiSoftware

Hi-Caption allows you to easily create the formatted captioning file for Quicktime, Real Media, Windows Media, and Flash without having to learn the code behind it while still making the code accessible. Supports SAMI, RealText, and SMIL.
