Software Directory
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) offers a variety of public domain, bulk purchase, and site-licensed software to members of the OSU community. Software acquired on a site license is limited to distribution by OIT. Individuals are strictly prohibited from loaning such software or making a copy for anyone else. All software offered through this program is reviewed annually for volume of distribution and cost of license. The renewal of the license for each package is dependent not only on the funding OIT has available, but also on the usage patterns. Policy guidelines are detailed in Site Licensed Software Policy.
To see what software is available, click on the desired category on the tabs at the top of this page. Please see below for recent site-licensed software announcements. Alternatively, you may subscribe to the e-mail list, SLICNEWS. Click on any platform in the left column to see how to subscribe. Distribution of site licensed software varies according to the application; refer to the software description to see how to obtain a copy of the package. Distribution methods include:
- CD and DVD media exchange or by loan from the IT Service Desk (025 Central Classrooms). The IT Service Desk requires a valid University ID in order to distribute Site Licensed Software from 025 Central Classrooms.
- Electronic distribution via the software distribution server. View a summary of the applications available for downloading from the Software Downloads page.
- Through a bulk purchase plan or an educational discount at a greatly reduced price. This type of software is sold only to faculty and staff (departments) on internal OSU funds. This is currently done using a 100-W form. The sales are done at the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms.
- Departmental or unit sub distribution via a Site Licensed Software Coordinator. An SLS Coordinator is authorized through their department chair or unit director to partner with OIT and distribute OIT site licensed software to end users within their department or unit. They must be a regular faculty or staff employee. You may view and print the SLSC application.
NOTE: The end user to whom the software is assigned will sign an End User Agreement where it is distributed on hard copy media at the IT Service Desk, 025 Central Classrooms. The end user is normally expected to pick up software in person. If you as the end user wish to send a student or other employee (proxy) to pick up your software, that proxy must provide the Service Desk with your completely filled out site license agreement, a note signed by you authorizing the proxy to get the software media and, if applicable, a properly filled out 100W.
You're encouraged to send any suggestions or concerns to software@osu.edu or 614-688-HELP. If your department has obtained software that is available campuswide that you would like to list on these pages, contact software@osu.edu as above. For more information, contact the IT Service Desk at 688-HELP.
