SOFTWARE: Ghost Solution Suite Version 2.5 for Windows

DESCRIPTION: Ghost Solution Suite is a disk utility program for disk imaging and deployment. The Suite includes Ghost, Symantec User Migration and Symantec DeployCenter. It is intended to be used by the experienced computer professional for fast installations of Windows workstations. This is most useful to a LAN manager with a large number of similarly configured workstations to install. It is also useful in lab settings where workstations must be reconfigured to their original state on a regular basis.

• Multicast accelerates deployments and reduces overall network traffic.
• Meets industry standards for secure data disposal (DoD 5220.22-M).
• Hardware and software inventory for managing image and software deployments.
• Allows automation of repetitive IT management tasks.

New features in the 2.5 release include:

• DeployAnywhere technology reduces disk image proliferation and maintenance through hardware independent imaging that automatically detects and injects drivers which match your target hardware configuration.
• Hot imaging automatically refreshes images from a live reference machine prior to deploying the image thereby reducing the risk of stale, out-of-date images. Hot imaging also images directly from a reference machine to an endpoint without any intermediate image creation step.
• Logical volume support decreases imaging time by capturing images across Windows or Linux logical volumes that span multiple disks or partitions.
• Support for additional imaging formats including VMware disk image format (VMDK), Symantec Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR), and PowerQuest (PQi).

PLATFORM: Client: 133 MHz Pentium PC; Console: 400 MHz Pentium; Server: Pentium III or higher.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: Client: 32 MB RAM, available disk space equal to twice the size of the largest file to be migrated on the C: drive when restoring a package, MS IE 5.01 or higher; Console: 64 MB RAM, VGA or better monitor, MS IE 5.01 or higher, Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8 or higher for Symantec Client Migration Component; Server: 512 MB RAM, 10/100 MBPS NIC, disk space required depends on the number of planed client migrations and average package size, SQL 7.0 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000, IIS 5.0 or higher for the Client Migration component.

• Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista Business/Enterprise/Ultimate, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server SP3, Windows Server 2003 Standard/Enterprise SP1, Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard/Enterprise, Windows XP Professional SP2
• Video display supporting 256 colors at 800 by 600 resolution

Symantec Ghost Console Client

• Windows Networking connectivity
• 64/32-bit Windows OS including Vista (Business/Enterprise/Ultimate), Windows XP, Windows 2000 Professional (excluding support for 64-bit Itanium processors)
• 32-bit Windows applications
• Single boot system (no dual boot support)
• Current DOS drivers for workstation network cards

ELIGIBILITY: Faculty and staff.

RESTRICTIONS: This is a right-to-use license copy and it must be returned when you leave OSU. It is for OSU business only and may not be used for commercial purposes. It is for use at the main and regional campuses only and may not be used on home computers.

PURCHASE: The software may be purchased for $4.50 per copy with a 100-W at OIT Customer Services, 512 Baker Systems (see note below). A copy must be purchased for each device (including Virtual Devices) on which you intend to use the software. Refer to the license agreement on the install media. Existing users: There is no cost for upgrades, though CD-R media is $5. The media may be paid for with a 100-W or you may exchange 1 blank CD-R with white ink-jet printable label.

COST WITHOUT SITE LICENSE ARRANGEMENTS: An academic license for use on 50 workstations is approximately $13 per copy and $3 annually for maintenance per copy.

DISTRIBUTION METHOD: The software is distributed in OIT Customer Services, 512 Baker Systems. The CD-R media is $5. The media may be paid for with a 100-W or you may exchange 1 blank CD-R with white ink-jet printable label. (see note below)
